Team USA Edges Mexico North 2-1 | Coastal Classic Baseball

January 4 2025 Team USA scored twice in the fifth inning and held on for a 2-1 win over Mexico North in a seven-inning game at Coastal Black. Team USA finished with two runs on two hits and no errors while Mexico North had one run on four hits and no errors.

Mexico North took a 1-0 lead in the third when Eric Cuevas doubled and scored an unearned run. Team USA answered in the fifth with its only scoring inning as Xavier Salinas and Kevin Roque scored, and Eric Yelding was credited with an RBI. Yelding had one of Team USA's two hits, a double, while Salinas added the other hit and scored a run.

Nick Richards earned the win for Team USA after allowing one run, none earned, on four hits over five innings. Richards walked two and struck out seven while throwing 35 strikes on 50 pitches. Arnoldo Garcia picked up the save with two hitless innings, allowing four walks and striking out three.

Mexico North received a strong start from Abraham DeLeon, who allowed one hit over 3.2 scoreless innings with five walks and four strikeouts. Henry Sepulveda took the loss after allowing two runs, both unearned, on one hit and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. Chris Parsons finished with 2.1 hitless innings and four strikeouts.

Cuevas scored Mexico North's lone run and finished 1-for-4 with a double. Ezequiel Garcia went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk, while Andy Rodriguez and Joey Gusman each added a hit for Mexico North.
